“I’m not entirely sure how to pronounce Emmanuel Latte Lath’s name. Is it Latte as in the coffee drink and Lath as in bath?”

Yes to both.

Here’s Atlanta’s offense in a nutshell. Their FBs get wide and high and bomb in crosses and pray that somebody can get to one. That’s pretty much it. They also don’t really do defending. Ronny Deila seems like a really bad hire. Another 3-0 loss (they lost last weekend to Philly by that score) and I think he’ll be fired. 19 year old CB Noah Cobb has told the press that the team needs its own players to step up and provide leadership, which is a stunning comment for a young guy to make. A lot of the players were acquired by the previous TD who got fired in August and there has been a tendency for some of his acquisitions to start off red hot when they first arrive and then get stone cold later. The team traded winger Xande Silva to St. Louis for some allocation money this week and brought in nobody after rumors were that they were trying to get Julian Gressel back. Their bench is weak and the entire offense goes through RB Brooks Lennon. He’s OK but having the ENTIRE offense go through him is a bad idea. Did Deila do this with NYCFC? If not, why is he doing it now? Deila seems completely out of ideas and the one suggestion the fans have that might actually fix everything immediately is the one thing he has refused to try. I’m not going to say what it is because I’m not going to help him do his job. But there’s a great chance that this will be his final match as manager of Atlanta United if Orlando wins convincingly on Saturday.

Other problem cities include but are not limited to Chicago, Denver, Toronto and Montreal. Not to mention that traditionally US soccer teams have their biggest attended matches in the summer. MLS just seems hell bent on this with most of the owners apparently thinking it’s the greatest idea ever and simply cannot fail at all. I think it’s going to be a disaster. And I can’t wait to see how the players react when they find out that because so many MLS owners are really cheap that the way they make alignment work is that they don’t play between January and June, have camp in July, and the players simply don’t get paid for those 6 months off. Fun times for sure.

By the way, I’m saying this because a lot of US fans don’t know this, but Brazil doesn’t play an aligned schedule either and it seems to me that they kind of know what they are doing with soccer. Their regular season starts in April and runs through December. Nobody down there is demanding that they align with the international calendar.

Philadelphia has a history of knowing exactly when to get rid of older players. Kacper Przybylko anyone? And in 2023, Gazdag did score 14 goals, but 11 were from penalties. There was talk that maybe he had nothing to offer from the run of play, but he put that thought to rest last year. Yet they are walking away during this season… Maybe they have concluded there’s not much left. Columbus is a smart team, but now that Curtin is gone from Philly and not there to force the team into keeping older players they wanted to move on from (Bedoya and Wagner), this would be a good chance to get something for a guy they don’t intend to keep anyway.

Philadelphia would rather never win MLS Cup than to pay more to do so, so no doubt some element of cheapness is at play too. The Athletic came out with an article on Discovery Rights and mentioned that Philadelphia originally had the rights to Zlatan Ibrahimovic, not
the LA Galaxy, and that MLS secretly ruled that Philadelphia had no intention of paying market rates for Zlatan and thus were not entitled to compensation when the Galaxy did sign him. So that will show you where Philly’s thinking always is.

Thai Union Group basically killed Red Lobster. They owned a large minority of the restaurant and killed it with their disastrous endless shrimp all the time promotion. They have since divested from what’s left of Red Lobster and no longer own any of it.
